  • US2’s third Core Principle states “We must intentionally include so as not to unintentionally exclude.” How does using language or making jokes that minimize other groups go against this principle? How do you think (or what bias do you hold) about people from a different socio-economic class than you? Does that bias affect how you talk about or treat them?
  • How would you like to see your school district and state work to restructure school funding – the model in which the state compensates districts with a higher concentration of disadvantaged students (Minnesota, Massachusetts & New Jersey) or the model in which all funds flow through the state and is distributed equitably (Michigan)? Why?
  • What kinds of conversations have you had with your students and/or your own children regarding class in the United States? Did you follow a similar approach as the article? Do you think these guidelines are helpful?
